His teaching philosophy derived from words of Dr. Cornell West. “Education is learning how to die. Death is a setting lose, a given up, and you need to set lose certain assumptions. You need to give up certain prejudices and prejudgments and your education is a perennial process of dying. Why? Because there’s no rebirth without death, there’s no education, there’s no cultivation of self and soul without something dying fading away.”
Mr. Elder says he "believes that every child can learn. I also believe that every child can be successful. It is through perseverance that mankind ensures that the children of today are educated and led in a positive direction."
Mr. Elder is a 7th grade math teacher here at Denman Junior High School and he is an assistant football coach for Denman and McComb High School. His hobbies include singing, solving social problems between peers, and traveling. Mr. Elder is married to Presha Nicole Elder, a teacher practitioner at The Summit. They have one daughter, Miss Peyton Elder. They are members of Word of Life in Flowood, MS where both are active in marriage life groups. You may reach Mr. Elder at [email protected].
